This year my students did their service project to benefit the Brian Piccolo Cancer Research Fund. The students learned the basics about the disease, and then viewed Brian's Song. They then constructed cancer awareness bracelets out of stretch cords and beads which represented the many different types of cancer by their color. For every one dollar donation, the donor received a bracelet. The students and teachers won an award from Harford County Public Schools and the state of Maryland for this project. We raised and are donating $350.00 to the Fund. This donation is being made in honor of your mother's memory. Though it is only a small amount, the benefits the students received from the project are very great and we hope that it will help in the fight to find a cure for cancer. We are very proud of our project, and I am always astounded by the generosity of my students. Brian's positive leadership qualities live on, as he continues to impact our young people.

“In August 2007, I married my wife. In September of the same year, I took chemotherapy to save my life. The next four months consisted of two surgeries and three months of chemotherapy. Lessons learned from research guided every step of my recovery and I thank God regularly for His work and the Brian Piccolo Cancer Research Fund.

“I was astounded the first time I saw the made-for-TV version of Brian's Song. I felt like my X-Ray was on the screen. In that moment, everything became clear. Brian Piccolo and his family carried the ball for 99 tough yards. Their dedication enabled me to cross the goal line. For every demon, there must be a deacon. In Brian Piccolo's wake, people like myself find a path out of the forest. Therein lies the Piccolo legacy now and forever.”
