Wake Forest UniversityHighest of Honors
On that rare occasion when an individual of unique talent and achievement has brought the highest of acclaim to Wake Forest, the University has elected to recognize that accomplishment with its highest athletic honor.
In over a century, there have been only five men whose contributions on the playing field have been of such a special nature. Their deeds were of such an incomparable level that it was determined no one who followed could be compared to them. Their numbers will never be worn by another. They truly had earned their own place in Wake Forest Athletics history.
Brian Piccolo (#31) is perhaps the most famous name with Wake Forest Football. An All-American in 1964 when he led the nation in rushing and scoring, Piccolo would later become nationally recognized and saluted for his valiant battle against cancer while a member of the Chicago Bears.
