After 29 years without a stadium, Brian Piccolo Memorial Stadium was built on the St. Thomas Aquinas High School campus. Construction was completed in September of 1975. The Raiders finally had a place to call home!
The stadium is named in honor of Louis Brian Piccolo. Brian prepped at St. Thomas, which at the time was known as Central Catholic High School. He was a star running back on the football team as well as a star baseball player. Brian went on to star at Wake Forest University.
Passed up in the NFL Draft, the All-American halfback signed with the Chicago Bears in 1965. He played for the Bears for only 4 seasons before succumbing to a rare form of cancer in 1970 at the age of 26.
