The Gavers Community Cancer Foundation’s partnership with the Piccolo Fund began in 2001 in recognition of the support and friendship Joy Piccolo O’Connell and others connected to the Piccolo Fund gave to Steve Gavers as he struggled with a cancer diagnosis and initial treatment. To date, the Gavers Foundation has committed $1,100,000 to the Piccolo Fund to support cancer research with a focus on women's cancers. The foundation's most recent gift to the fund was a very generous $100,000. These funds will be put to work on cancer research projects right away, advancing our understanding of this disease and improving treatments for patients.
The remarkable generosity of the Gavers Foundation is made possible by the hundreds of volunteers an supporters that plan and participate every year in fundraising activities sponsored by the organization. These activities culminate in the annual Gavers Community Barndance, a must-attend community event held every July in Chicago’s far west suburbs.
